If anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things." |
Akiami is a Mother, grandmother, United States Army Veteran, and Psychotherapist who received her undergraduate degree and Masters in Social Work from the University of Kentucky. She now has ten years of social work and clinical experience working in settings, such as child protective services, the rape crisis center, residential drug treatment center for women, therapeutic foster care, and an outpatient mental health clinic.
Akiami is the sole owner of a private practice called Life Counseling Transitions, LLC, established in 2015, which operates out of the state of Maryland and Georgia. Akiami is also an approved sponsor in the state of Maryland to provide Continuing Education Units to social workers and counselors in other states according to each state’s CE rules and regulations. Due to Akiami’s history of sexual and physical trauma, she desired to provide therapy and counseling to other victims and survivors of abuse and trauma. She began her healing journey when she put together a short documentary with other survivors telling their story (not for public viewing) to help them start to heal. |
Properly trained clinicians and mental health professionals are the keys to equipping vulnerable populations with the tools needed to build the life they should live. Akiami realized the importance of knowledge and information when working with vulnerable people, which was the reason for her to become a board-approved sponsor and develop her online learning center for other professionals working within the human services field.
Akiami’s foundation and values align with her Christian faith. She contributes her resilience and perseverance to her belief in God and her savior, Jesus Christ. Although Akiami initially sought to focus primarily on abuse and trauma, she became increasingly interested in neuroscience and cognition. She became certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and now concentrates on helping others improve mindsets and quality of life. She is a self-published author of three books titled “The UnHacked Mind,’ “Mission Uncomfortable,” and “My Purpose Then and Now,” which are available on Amazon.
Akiami enjoys sharing her personal story and speaking publicly to others who are interested in serving victims and survivors of trauma. She believes that everyone has a story to tell if someone is willing to listen.
